BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Council met on Monday. Present: The Mayor (Mr E. Dockrill), Councillors CJonuett, Clow, Lealand, Brooking, jCJollis, Carter, Tiscb, Webster, and Stohr. . Collis brought up the questipn of removal of dirt. He said one maa who had received a notice had told him he had saved the rubbish and waiting for the borough dust-oart, but it had not yet turned Up. The Mayor said the dust-cart scheme to remove rubbish free, would be too expensive for the Council. But he hoped the shopkeepers would be p epared to enter into a contract for regular removal of rubbish at a 3xed

price. Cr. Collis eaid some shopkeepers were already getting rubbish taken away at a very small charge. Or. Carter thought this might be worked- in conjunction with the, contract for night-soil removal. The Harbour Board notified that removal of stone attd gravel from the beach had been prohibited; The Borough Solicitor wrote in reference to Mr Courtney's claim for payment for the abat f oir site. The Health Committee reported ; That the recommendation made by the District Health Officer that tho Council combine with the other local bodies in north Taranaki to form one one sanitary area, and to appoint a competent person to act as Sanitary Inspector for r.he whole, be adopted, provided the other local bodies also adopt the recommendation.—Adopted. The Cemetery Committee reported : That the piecs of native bush growing on the bank of the Henui river, within tha Cemetery reserve, be fenced to prevent destruction by cattle ; that Mrs Kivell be informed that Mr May has ordered a new globe, to replace the one broken by his horse; that the sexton be notified that on no consideration must he allow horses to graze in the Cemetery; that after having made due 1 inquiry, this committee has no reccm- ' mendacion to make with reference to the headstone broken in the Cemetery.
