LICENSING COMMITTEE.

The quarterly meeting of tho Licensing Committee for Taranaki was held by Mr R. L, Stanford, S.M., on Thursday.

Tbe following transfers were grant ed; —Breakwater Hotel, W. J. V. H»sluck to T. S. McGuinness; Taranaki Hotel, M. Kelly to E. F. Buckthought; Kabotu Hotel, J. Hawkins to D. Moroney.

In relation to the Rahotu Hotel, His Worship intimated that a balcony would have to be erected on both sides of the building. Mr Samuel said he would convey the wishes of the Bsnch to tbe licensee and owner. With reference to tbe Tarantki Hotel, Sergeant Haddrell stated that it was usually the last hotel to close at night, and he would like it known that the closing must take phee promptly at 11 o'clock. Mr Samuel uodeitook to see that the works of the clock and the hinges of the door were well oiled. The Msgifctra'e referred to the undertaking given to rebuild the Imperial Hotel, and commented on the fact that no steps were being taken in that direction. He intiinattd ti at the hotel would have to be satisfactorily and completely rebuilt by the annual meeting ia Juno next, or the 1 cense would not be renewed.

Mr Govett, wbo appsared for the proprietor, Mr Raynes, said that plans were being prepared by an architect omside the town, but could not be completed until the street levels were obtained. These had been applied for. Sergeant Haddroli said he was notii • satisfied with the existing ariaogej merits, and that the Building Inspector • 'had wishheld his certificite. Mr Shotlandor, the licensee, said ■ that Mr R'iynes had informed him the rebuilding would be comuiencel next April. He was very anxious to have the work carried out, as at present his business was injured, and ho had to refuse accommodation in some cases, lie was, however, taking every precaution against fire, and had a nightwatchman patrolling the building every half hour.
