DR. WILKINS' THIRD TRIAL.

WORDY SPARRING BETWEEN JUDGE AND DOCTOR. PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, November 26. The third trial of Dr. John Wilkins, on a charge of having on or about May 17th last; committed manslaughter by killing Mary O'Dowd commenced today, The Crown Prosecutor contended that the evidence indicated that an illegal operation had been performed. The evidence was similar to that given in previous triple. The prisoner, who conducted his own case, frequently made comments on the evidence of witnesses, and was more than once reprimanded by the Judge, who on one occasion remarked : " You seem to think you are privileged to insult tha witnesses, insult me, and [waste the time of toe jury. I have | seen a great mwy low ruffi-ins in that dock witnesses, and I htve never one do it so badly as you." Dr. Wilkins replied : '• Yes, very well, your Honor." His Honor informed the jury that in law this cross-examination was entirely bfside the question.

The case will ba continued tomorrow.
