INGLEWOOD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent). Colonel Newall. the officer commanding this district paytd a visit to Inglewood last Friday evening to inspect the local infantry corps, in company wifh Captain Okey. There was a good muster of men on parade, and nil looked spick and span. The Colonel announced that he had just received Captain Nops' reiigDation, which he had no doubt would be accepted, and it therefore behove the corps to elect another to fill the vacancy. He then proceeded to examine Lieutenant Leech in practical drill, and that officer acquitted himself very creditably, the Colonel remarking that he was the ablest young officer he bad examined) on the coast. '
Captain Mathews returned hero last Friday afternoon, and was met on the station by many of his old friends, who were very glad to see him safe and found. So far as T can gather, be intends residing for some time in Ing'eword, and will probably take charge of the Hawera Mounted Bifles in the event tf Captain Bartlett leaving.
