CANADIAN GOVERNOR GENERAL.
(Per R.M.S. Sonoma.) Tfaa London Chronicle is responsible for the statement that the Earl of Minto, owing to differences with the Imperial Government, is not likely to complete his term as Governor-General of Canada, to whiih office ho was appointed in 1898 for a term of five years, The Chronicle also states that should Lord Minto resign the Governor - Generalship, it will be offered to Baron IDo Blaquiere. It is asserted that the little time spent by the Earl of Minto with the Duke aod Duchess of York is merely one evidence of the faction existing between the Premier, Sir Wilfred Laurier, and the Governor-General. This is partly due (says the Chronicle) to the Earl o c Minto's refusal to sanction the Premier's recommendation that the Mayor of Montreal and Premier of Quebec receive the decoration of Knight Commander of Sr. Michael and S*. George, | and al?o to the Eirl's interference with the Canadian militia, as an instance of which he claimed commissions in the British Army which Lord Roberts set aside for the Canadians as being his personal gift instead of the Ministry's, Lord Roberts having eventually to s'ep in and make the appointments himself on the recommendation of the I Canadian Government.
