TURBINE ENGINE.
Lieutenant J. W. G tiAYDON/late of the United States Navy, has, after miiny months of study and patient experimenting, invented a turbine engine' which ho confidently believes will revolutionise locomotion both on land and sea. It is claimed for the Graydon turbine engine that it can be constructed for one-balf of the cost of a modern triple expansion engine, and
will occupy about a quarter of the Jrdarii. A great amount of bewil- 1 i dering tfhich prevails to day on board ship will bfl eliminated. Coal bunkers will make way for meat and handy oil tanks. It is stated that a company composed of influential men is being floated with a capital of -£2,000,000, and that experts from the big s'eatuship companies have already inspected the engine and are favourably impressed. The speed which the Graydon eogine will give to ships is stated to be more than 40 knots an hour, and its inventor is confident ' that Vessels will be able to cross th" i Atlantic in three days! , Such minor ' conceptions as turbine army transports, ' ambulance, artillery and despatch i! motors are matters, it is said, which • will i ©suit f row the adoption of this new 1 1 engine.
