BOWLING.

With such a perfect day for the enjoyment of the pleasures of the bowling I green it was not surprising that at the formal opening on Monday afternoon there should be a very large muster of members and visitors. Thu green was in the pink of perfection, and ovary rink was engaged, the players being all enthusiastic on the favourable circumstances ia which they opened the fasoD. The absence of the genial President, Mr. Paul, was felt by all, as this is the first time that he has not been present to assist with his cheery and trite remarks at the opening game. Mr. Tiscb, the Vice-President, was, however, equal to the occasion, and was very happy in the brief remarks customary t j the occasion. After reftrring to Mr. Paul's absence, he voiced the feelings of all present when he said that in a few weeks the mem.bsrs would hare great pleasure in welcoming home the wanderer, whom all hoped was completely restored to health. He mentioned with fome pride the stability of the New Zealand bowlers on the English and Scotch greens, ptrcicularly Mr, J. W. Dingle, who might be called the champion bowler of the world, and as it w.is on the local green that hj? le irnt the game, there was additional pleasure ia recordinghissuccesf.
