The Attorney-General, on inquiring into the status of the Commonwealth with regard to the agreements between the various States aud the Easterh Extension Cable Company, tt&s perfectly astounded to find that none of the agreements are terminable except with fcb® Consent of both parties. Therefore the Government and the company have bound themselves for all eternity. There is a proviso for lowering rates, but all other ittattets can only be determined by mutual consent. The session of the Federal Council of the Protestant Alliance resolved that as the order in New Zealand seemed disinclined to adopt the Federal rules it be dropped out of the Federation altogether after this yean Brisbane.
