At a meeting of the executive of th# North Canterbury Branch of the Farm'rs' Union, held here yeaterday, the official report cf the proceedings at Ashburton was read. It we* moved by Mr Witty, and seconded by Mr B. F. Reec, that words in the repoit, "It was unanimously decided that in future all rebates should be abolished,* should be excised Mr R Reid moved, and Mr Gardner seconded, an amendment that the words should read that it was deoided by a majority thit in future all rebites should either be abolished or made general. The amendment wss carried. In regard to insurance against accidents it was de-> cided to request the colooul exeotttiva to ascertain at the earliest possible £ate what were the best insuranoe terms obtainable, and then plaoe matter .with recommendations before, the various provincial executives with a view to taking some immediate action; aleo that offers reoeived by the dxeoutive fa* sailed and remitted to the colonial executive; th*fe insuraooe shoold cover all agricultural labour ifiar which an employer is liable under, all existing Acts. The SiMetary was instraoted to write to ,th» Minister for Railways - settiog forth that a reduction in freight on wool was urgently needed, as the price is very low. The action of the exfeutive is appointng the Dairyman the ofiiaial oigan of the Union until thenixt colonial conference was endowed. The letter of the Best Melton Branch enclosing a motion strongly recommending the Union to eon* iider the question of establishing cool stores in South Afrioe, so that ft market for New Zealand meat, poultry and potatoec, etc., might be established there, and also that the Government be urged to assist in finding a market there waa referred to the Piemier.
