George Jones , moved to add words to the effect that if a magistrate finds that an applicant fcr the pension has any near relatival in the colony who are able to wholly or partially maintain the appl.cant, the magistrate any refuse the application or grant reduced pension, "nearrelative" to include wife, husband, father, mother, child, brother, and sister of applicant. After considerable discussion the amendment was rejected by 17 to U; the Bill was re- , ported, read a third time and passed. The Minister for Education morel the committal of the Factories Bill. Hod. G. McLein said our industries were failing u», and the present 811 was, to a certain extent, of a barrasting nature. Hon. J. Bigg said the woollen mills could get over their difficulties undrr the reduced hours by putting in more | machinery. Hons. J. T. Peacock, A Lee-Smith, and W. T. Jennings also spoke. Hon. L»e-Smith advised imitation of technical excellence and improved methods of American manni acture9, Hoc W. T. Jennings sapported miking working conditions of women and young people as good at possible. The debate was interrupted by tilt ■ 5 o'c'o.'k adjournment, EvEiriNG SiTrnra. The Council resumed at 7.30 p.m. Tub debate on the motion for commits 1 of the Factories Bill was contiuued by Hons. W. T. Jennings! 0. i Jones, J. M. Twomey, J. E. Jenkanson. i and W. C. Walker. The Counoil then went into committee on the Bill, and the Labour Bill i Committee's amendments to the interpretation clause in rwpect of M boys * and "women" were passed on the > voices. 1 The Council adjourned for sapper.
