STRATFORD NOTES.

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) The Stratford Town Band, after having been for some time rather under a cloud, hns once more taken a fresh start. Tbe town ha* been vigorously 1 caavassed fm subscriptions, and the band will s'on" b> in possession of an up-ti-data sdt of ins ruments. An efficient, "bandmaster is b iog obtained at a salary of £SO a year, and in a short time t.he band should be a credit! to the town. It is proposed to promote a sparts meeting shortly, with a view to adding still lurther to tbe band's fnnds. The football season was closed last week with a large plain and fancy drees bal 1 , an annual function that is always a sacres. This year was no exception, the hall being crowded, and everyone having " a good time." Mr J. Jordan, of the Post Office, is leaving us for New Plymouth in a day or two. During the time he baa been here, he Ins ingratiated himself with everyone by bis courteous and obliging manner, and everyone congratulates him on his well-earned promotion. Mr Rasmussen's new premises are now under way, and will be a credit to the place. They will probibly be the finest set of dining rooms on the coast. Tbe short t.ppll of fine weather we have had has proved sufficient to set the dust going once more. The Council should be warned in time, and procure a water-cart.
