LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

The Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Imprest Supply Bill (No. 5) passed all stages.
Hon. H. Feldwick said he had no hope of getting the ChemiVs Hours of Attendance Bill through this session, and on his motion its committ? 1 was deferrei for a week.
The Labour Bills Committee reported the Factories Bill with amendments, tbe principal of which are to strike out the definition of " young person " and to provide that "boy" means any worker below, and " male worker " any worker above the age of sixteen. A sub-clause matting the weekly 48 hours and the daily 8| hours not applicable to workers getting up steam, and to freezing works, I dairy factories, and other factories mentioned in the second schedule is' struck out, and that schedule itself is struck out. The preseated hours may not be expended during more than two consecutive hours in any week. The proviso relating to overtime in bush sawmills that it shall ba payable only for hours in excess of 48 weekly is struck out. The subclause that compels payment of an increased wage of at least two shillings weekly to boy ! and girl apprentices in each year is amended by making the minimum incr ase seven shillings. The clause imposing a penalty for death or injury through an occupier's default is struck out.
At 5 p m. the Council adjourned till 8 p.m.
