VOLUNTEERS.

Captain Taunton has n ceivod word from the Defence Office that owing to the department having decided not to incur any expense in connection with the volunteers on the 9th November (King's Birthday), it cannot giant the necessary concessions for the projected parade of the Tar.ioaki Battalion at Hawera, which was to have beau held on the 11th prix. The patade is therefore "off." This decision will no doubt cause a great deal of disappointment, as the

various companies bed been looking forward with zess to the outing. An effort will, however, be made to hold a daylight parade of the local corps on the afternoon of Monday, the 11th November, for which a personal payment will be made to the men, if the department can be prevailed upon to make the concession.
