This matter has been before the Courts for some time. An application for the removal of tha license from Bell Block into anothi r part of the same licensing district was grant. d by Mr Stanford, S.M., and upheld od appeal. Now the matter comes before Mr Justice Cenolly at tlu New Plymouth sitting, beginning on the 2nd inst., and as the bomfideß of the stipendiary magistrate are involved a nt-w phase is presented. The application, which will be made by Mr A. B. Atkinson, of Wellington, (and opposed by Messrs Skerrett (Wellington) and Weston (New Plymouth), takes the form of a motion for certiorari, on the gro'ind of bias and predetermination. The points on which the motion are based are: (1) A written promise by the magistrate to grant the license some months before the application was heard; and (2) pecuniary obligations to a person interested in the grant of the license."
