At a meeting of the Queen's memorial fund committee at Dunedin, the subscriptions were said to have totalled £2322. It was decided to accept a design in marble nf tbe late Queen Victoria, with two panels in bronze, at a cost of £2400, in Dunedin, subject to the plaster model meeting with approval.
The award in the Forest-Gate compensation case was given on Monday morning on the basis of £5 10s per acre for 8783 acres. The claimants asked for £5 16s 9d, and the Government offered £4.
Colonel Webb was presented with a purse [of sovereigns on Monday at Dunedin by [members of the Otago Olub on the eve of his [ departure to take up the command of the [Canterbury district. His Honor Judge Conolly arrived by the Ngapuhi on Monday morning. The Supreme Court opens on Wednesday. It has been arranged to run a special train from New Plymouth to Waitara after the performance at the Theatre Royal on Thursday by the Johi if. Sheridan Company. This concession should be a great boon to our Waitara neighbours.
