CO-OPERATIVE BACON-CURING.

The movement to form a Co operative Company for purchasing and Mr Drake's bacon factory at Fi> zroy is spreading. Subsequently to the meeting at Bltham when delegates ware ap-. pointed to confer wi'h others in the : district a meeting was held at when about tweoty pig supplieis were present, and on the motion of MrLatnbie the following delegates were appointed:—Messrs J. Stuvotjson and S. Campbell, who will meet the othj r delegates and mnke inquiries as to the amount of support likely to be given to the project. To enable the Qeces-ary information to be set before the suppliers, Mr Drake stated that a killing station would cost about .£IOOO. He suggested that such a station should first be erected at a central paint.and that ultimately stations should be established at Eltham, and Opunake. At present Kaponga the chitf source of sqppty, and was adapted for the fjrst station. He stated that a pig at eight mmths' old was • worth £2, , r It took 300G pigs a year to pay expenses, so that if 8000 were pat through'it would mean 3£d for suppliers, or -|d per lb more than at present, which would go into the supplier's pocket. The difficulty at present was keeping up with the demand, owing to the goad name his bacon had obtained He was prepared to tajce up JQO or §OQ shares, or as many as the promoters would a'lot hitn. Killing stations should, of course, be erected wherever the supply warranted. As soon as delegates are ap pointed at all the proposed oentres they will meet and decide on a course of action.
