ANNUAL MEETING NEW PLYMOUTH ' OKIOKBT CLUB
The annual meeting/of the New Plymouth Cricket Club was held on Tuesday evening at Messrs Bewley and Griffith's office, about a dozen persons being present. Mr 0. Rennell (president), occupied tbe chair. The anniul report and bikncj sheet were adopted, and showed the position to be as follows : ■■•■■
The financial position of the club was not so good as was hoped for, a feet attributable to the difficulty experienced in getting a secretary able' to devote himself sufficiently to the business, Tbe roceipts had been Ll7 14s, and expenditure the same; and in addition thera were outstanding liabilities amounting to L 6 5s 3d. During the past season eight Cup matches were playod by the first eleven, four being won, three losI', 1 ', and one drawn. The seniors were beaten for the Championship of the northern division by the Waitara Cricket Club. The second eleven was more successful, winning each of eight matches played, and also | the play tii' with the winning club of the southern division. The dab was I represented by Messrs Robertson and ; Elliott in repr. sentative match against Wanganui, which Taranaki won. Mrj Lash won the bat presented by Mr; Bewley for best batsman in fit st eleven,! with an average of 20.4, Mr Hassoll j making the best bowling average, 6.23 runs per wick»t. In the second eleven Mr A. Bewley won the prize (bat given by Mr C, Eennell) for. best batsmen, with an average of 11.5 runs), and for bowling (bat given by Mr Stohr), with an average of 2.68, and Mr Stohr won the prize (leg guards given by Mr S. Teed), for best, fielder. The report urged upon mombers the need for greater interest in the game, which should ensure a successful record Juting the coming season. i
The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr. C. Reonell (re-elected) ; vice-presidents, Drs. Fookes, Walker, Messrs O. Samuel and L). Teed, sear.; captain, Mr. W. Bowley ; vice-captairj, Mr. Elliott; secretary, Mr. Medley; treasurer, Mr. Robertson ; auditor, Mr. S. Kennell; general committee, Messrs Lash, Bauchope, Currif, Lae, A. Bewley, and officers ex officio. It was resolved that the Club be affiliated with tho Taranaki Cricket Union, and Mr. Elliott was appointed delegate to the Union. The delegate was authorised to support the suggestion that each club subscribe to a trophy for competition among, first elevens of affiliated cl»bs, the cost not to exceed 10s each, and 5s each for a similar trophy for junior elevens, Fourteen new members were elected, and the subscription was fixed at 10s (id.
The meeting expressed the opinion that it was desirable that a northern committee of management should be formed, and the delegate was instructed accordingly ; the committee to consist of delegates of each of the northern club?, for tbe management of cricket matters at this end of the district. It was decided to open the season on Thursday, 10th September, Messrs A . Bewley and O. Bennel were appointed delegates lo wait on the Recreation Ground Board to arrange terms.
