CHORAL FESTIVAL AT ST. MARY'S.
Although the presence of the Oburch choirs in the district at St. Mary's this ovening is modestly announced as a choral service, it may and should be rpgarded as the inaugural step in a movement leading to the institution of periodical choral festivals, which church choirs can make highly successful, Rightly making a s'art in the very modest way »h : ch is the order for this evening's service, the foundation stone is laid for a superstruction, the extent and utility of which can only be measured by the skill of the organisers and the enthusiasm and capacity of the units of the s vpral choirs. The advantages at'aching to 'he movement ara very greit, and apart fiom the increased interest which is infused into choir work by practising sacred i horn! selections as a change to the usual church music, the p riodic gathering together should act as an incentive to each choir to do it i brat io rendering devoutly, intelligently, and accurately not only the music used in the services, but the glorious end soulinspiring strains of the greit masters who have devoted their highest ta'en'.H in thi service of sacred sang. Ic is to be hoped thit there will be a very large congregation this evening tn give encouragement and countenance to the choirs assembled atS 1 :, Mary'-i Chuich. It is expected that the combined choirs will number about 100.
