SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The Town School Committee met on Monday evening. Present: Mess's Colli' (chairman), P. White, T. White, Oaukiodge*, Todd, Murray, Hooker, Bruce, and F. Bellringer. The Educitien Board write stating that it was unable to gran*- the committee any increasa in the amount of capitation. t The average attendance at the Central School was reported to be 481, and the highest attendance (520) was reached oA Wednesday Inst, It was reported that a start had been made with kinderjr*r f en chs°es *t the Courtney-street Infant School. The attendance at tbig school is also inerrasing rapidly, 160 names being on the roll, with an average attendance of 140. At the West Infants' School the roll number stanza at 140, with an average attendance of 131—the y«t recorded Both these Infant Schools are in a very overcrowded stite, and the at.tentioo of the Educition Board is to be cal'ed to the fact, wi'h a request <o provi 'e additional accommodation. The chairman and Mr. F. B llringT were appointed a committee to lcok i'to the matter, and report to the pr -per authorities. The committee considered its financial po-itioo, and as a result the following resolution was pa»sed : ■'That all caretakers under the committee receive one month's notice, as from 3'st Angus' - , that their ssvics will not be further required." Mesr s Todd and Gaukrodger wero appointed a visiting committee for the current month, accounts werepss-el, aad the meeting adjourned.
