BELL BLOCK.
(Our Own Correspondent.) Bell Block was on Wednesday the scene of quite a novelty in the shape of a hockey match between eleven ladies from Oarrington-road and a local eleven. The Bell Block colours were black and amber sashes worn over dresses of all shades, some bright and come sombre, but the effect was very pretty. Their opponents wore r d and • ►lack sashes on equally diverse diessas. The Rcana was picturesque and animated, and the excitement was intense Immediately on the arrival of the visitors the game was started, under the I charge of Mr. Bramley as referee. As I M<\ Bramley is the ctptain of the 801 l Block Olub, he evidently determined to show that he had no undue leaning to the local side, on whom his decisions were generally considered to press rather bardly. Cirrington-road were bard pressed at first, but, after a capital rush almost from one end of the field to tbe other, were the first to draw blood. Soon after the second spell opened Bell Block secured a goal which equalised matt'-w for a time, but owing to soma bad play among the backs 0 irrington-roai wore enabled to finish the game with two goals to one in their favour. Toe play of the visitors was very good and is is hard to distinguish among suoh an even lot, but Miss Gilmour was very conspicuous as were also Miss Saxton and Miss Knyvett. Amongst the local players the honours went to Miss L. Silway, Miss May Sole, and the Mistej Dora and Berth* Hoby, who did the lion's share of the work. Had all played up- like these young ladies the result would have been very different, but it is only fair to state that some of the otbe 1 s had vary little practice and give promise of much better play when they grnpp the nice'i s of th< gtme. A large number of spectators assembled to witu'ees tie contest and a b->iiD i' ul and cnoice tei wis dispensed by the ladies < f thedistricK After this pho ographs : f bo h teams were taken by a loiil photographer. Grea> r-gret is .felt on-the annou cement that Mr. Glegg has sold his property and is laviDg this pait of the district. He has taken a very preraiment part in ell that concerns tbe we'faro of the neighbourhood and he will b j hard to replace.
