MAORI SLANDER CASE.
. PKB EBBS ASSOCIATION, Hawbra, August 10. In the Dish-ict Court, to-day a llaori slander ctse was heard. One native Moused another of breaking into bouses and stealing therefrom, and a runanga was held, which decided that accused was guilty, and he was ordered to pay £SO This be refused to do, and brought an action in the European Court. The Judge ssid if natives were not allowed to bold these rmumgas and conduct tbeir c«*es in their own way it would cum great trouble. Ha added that Maori methods should be encouraged so as to keep them out of Court anil cost*, but in serious cases tbey should put the mattir in the bands of the police.
