In response to 'a circular from the Defsnce Depirtmenb asking that a competent non-commissioDed officer from each corps should be appoint to proceed to Wellington to attend th < school of instiuc'ion in the use and handling of the new Ire-Enfield riile S-rgeanta Armifcagn (Rifles) and Hw' smger (Guards) have bwn selected from the local corps. Theypioceed to Wellington on Monday, and remain at the school duiing all next week. After inspecting the guard of honour J at the Railway fci'a'.ion on Thursday' Colonel Davies p\id a high compliment] to Adjutant Taunton for the manner in which he had turned the men out. Ha was struck wi h their smart appearance. Referring to the Guards, he said that for a young company th«y reflate! the greatest credit on their officer* and themselves.
