In a brief interview granted to Ml Auckland Herald »pjr£>r, Mr Wooiey said that from a selfish point of view the parpoie of hie viait was to study the various reform* ia operation ia this oelony, and to see what application they ought to have to the prohibition movement in America. He referral, he aaid, chic fly to such queetiots aa woman suffrage, 'the referendasa, wad | other questions. As a raformer, his I mission was very simple, namely, to emphasise to the people of this nnlwij. as he did to his own psople, * h iit the fundamental thing in government wh moral character, and that bafon we got to the question of revenue or at rates of tariffs, retrenchment, or * n y of those tbipgs, we must bring every publio question to the bar of simple righteousness, and that if it failed ta sustrin itself there we must wash our hands of i', however politic or opportune it migbt appear. Mr. Wooiey held that the only hope of this eonntry, or of the world, was that Ohriatian men should begin to be and should remain Christians on election day. A* 'o the temperance qaee'ion in tike United Stites, Mr. Woo'ey stated that, though poliiical action waa s'o«r, there was a growing and a deepening of co iviction on the subject. He thought the liquor traffic must eventually ho controlled by the wish of the people. The prospects were hopeful and sap* ported by public opinion.
