OPENING UP MARKETS FOR NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE.
INTBBVIEW mEH MB GOW. The Government Trade Commissioner, Mr Gow, who ia visiting all the chief centres of, produce ia the Colony previous to departing on his mission to South Africa, Japan, China, Great Britain and other places with a view to placing New Zealand's marketable commodities before a larger circle of buyers, and en a firmer and more extended basis. It the course of conversion with a Daily News representative, Mr Gow said his present object was to come in contact with the producers in the colony, to obtain samples of such articles as they ha I to offer for export, to find the best markets for the various goods, and to acquire and diffuse as much information as possible relative to all matters connected with our export trade. So far B8 Taranaki is concerned; the dairy industry with its allied branches of bacon, egg«, poultry, etc., are naturally the ctii'if items. It was therefore particularly opportune that the gathering of dairymen and experts at Palmerston should have given him the opportunity of aeetiDg the representatives of this important industry, and arranging details for furthering its interests. There in no doubt the long exporieme which Mr Gow can claim in commercial matters, added to his other power/and bis up-to-date conception of th» best business methods, pra-eminently fit him for the responsible and im portant ttsk/jommitted te him Dy the Government, and althbugh too much must not be exp. cted by way of imme diate results, it is certain no stone will be left unturned in the opening up of fresh markets: Mr Gow is s'aying at the White Hart Hotel, where he will be pleased to receive any producer to-day, up to three o'clock.
