DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER.
Anothbb old pionser settler in tbe district has pissed away in the person of Mr James Bayly, senior, who died at the residence of his bob at Ornate on Suiaday, at the ripe age of four boom and four years. Tho deceased; with his two brothers Thomas and Willism, (now both dead) arrived hero in the Amelia Thoxpwn. He was through all the uativo war in Taranaki, being awarded tile N.Z. medal for intrepid onduct. Sueb was bis fearless disposition that he hid often t» be re*tr.iiQ<d from passing the sentrie', and bring a good marksman, he wasTdwart anxious to get a chance shot at the enemy. Fer many years before the w.r he settled at Tataraimaka, where' he proved himself a sucoe-gful farmer, but afterwards he went into butineas in New Plymouth, and he'd nwny contracts for supplying the Imperial troops at the time they were stationed here. Of late ye ira,( however, he has r*sided with his ouly surviving con, Mr Albe.-t Bayly, who wih his sister, Mrs D. Berry, are left to mourn his iosi. The interment takes place to day, the cortege pus : ng through town about 2.15.
