ABATTOIRS PETITION. WE wish the public to know we have nothing to do wi»h the petition now in circulation re the above. From our knowledge of the existing slaughter-houses, none of them possess the qualifications that arc necessary for abattoirs in accordance with the Act. Therefore new up-to-date buildings must b».erected .and, as the Borough Council bave full charge of them, also better edvaHtageß of obtaining money at a less rate of interest tban private individuals, we consider it is their duty to ereot" abattoirs, with chilling room, boiling down, and manure w< rks complete, and not the work for priv itA capitalists, By the Council erecting the abattoirs everything will be done under one management and one inspector, and the burgesses will have nothing to fear in tbe way of an extra rate, as they will be self supporting by utilising the whole of the byepro iuotg. It has been f-uggested that each existing slaughterhouse might bo licensed, bat that would mean an Inspector for each slaughterhouse at a salary of £2OO par year, as provided by the regulations, which would praotically mean crushing the small butchers, bb they could not afford to pay that and their rents as well. Hoping the Council will comply with the Act and erect up-to-date works, which will be better for all concerned. We are, ■ Yours respectfaUr, to SOLS BROTHERS. CHILBLAINS make children croes atad ill Apply Loaaby's Koolibab before they reak, and note th« ohangt—initaot
