ABATTOIRS PETITION. WE wish tho public to know we have Dotting to do wi h tha petition now in circulation ro tho above. Fom our knowledge of the existing slaughter-houses, none of them poss-ss the qualifications that arc necessary f-r abattoirs in accordaaca with the Act. Therefore new up-'o-date buildings must be erccte J , and, as the Borough Oonncil have full charga oE them, also better ed'-antages of obtaining mone» at a less rate of interest than private individuals, we consider it is their duty to erect abattoir?, with chilling room, boilu g ,down, and manure works complete, atd not the work for private capitalists. By Council erecting the abattoirs everything will be doae under one management and one insp- ctor, and the burgesses will havo nothing to fear in the way of an extra as they will be self supporting by utilising the whole of the byepro iucte. It has be;n suggested trat each oxisting s'augh:erhous3 be licensed, but tha'. wouli mean an in-pecter for each slaughterhouse at a (alary of £.OO as provi led by the regulations, which would practically mean crushing the small butchers, as they could not afford to pay tlwtand their rtnta as well. Hoping the Council wi 1 comply wit'j the Act and erect up-to-c'ate works, wli'ch will be better for all con creed. We are, Youh respectfully, tc SOLE BROTHERS.
