It, is doubtful if the Premier will be able to get away to Auckland for the recept : oa of the Duke owing the {rets ure of business connected with the Royal visit and the approach of the session of Pailiament. It is certain Mr Ward will go.

A SERIOUS MISHAP. ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY HORSES POISONED.
Napier, June 6. The Wairarapa Mounted Native Tro-pere, who are on their ( way to Ro'onn to take pirfi in the celebrations to wflome the Duke nnd Duihe-s of York, met with a mishap in route to day. Mr A. L D. Eraser, M H.R., received a wire from the officar in charge if the tioop informing him that 150 horses di'd on arrival at Te awcr.i. it is supposed from the effects of poisoning.
It-is conjectured by travellers wh. know this rod that tbe troope s must have let their horsrs drink at the first of two CTOs-sirjgs of' the Wa'ponga stream, aVout two miles from Teraneia. Several instir.c shave cccurrfd of valuable animals having die! from drinking at this crowing! and most of the old hands now go on ti the sxoad crottiiig before permitting their horses to diink. Mr Fras r immfdintely made arrangemetits for a coach tu convey the hoisele>s members of the tro p to Rotcrua.
Captain F L Welslerbas received a te'egram from Mr. Edward IVegeer stating tl at he had got thu number of invi a'iot'S for ve'er.nsto visit Willing'on (x ended, and stating he would* do bis re t to send to th.se whose uauaes (about 40) were i-upplied by Mr. Webs er. I'. will be useless ftr any further applications to be wa<ie. It would seem that the present would be a vety favourable opportunity for foiming a b.acch here of the Veterans Association, a project which Mr. Webster would gladly a'sist in bringing to matui ity. It appears as if New Plymouth wes the only centre where such an As ociation did cot exut and this state of ail dra should no longfr be parmitted.
