Webster informs ub that he i-i sending quite a number of names of veterans down to We'lington in connection with the vi-it to Wellington on the occasion of t-je Royal visit. Captain Taunton has with his usual kindness been asiisting aQd it is really astonishing the progress the boys are making. Their movements are being executed with clockwork precision.
OPUNAKE MOUNTED BIFLVB. (fhou oub own corbkspohdeht). At a meeting of the Opunake School Cadet Corp a following officers were unanimously elected: Crfp'ain, G. C. Heenan, Held Master; First L : eut, G. E. V. Hsenan, S5. VII; Second Lieut., James Bickey, St. Vf.; Third Lieu f ., James Nicholson, S*. VI. The following non • commissioned officeis were then appointed by the Cap'ain:— Sergemt-Majo , A. Calender; Sergeant, 11 "g Fowltr; Corporals, T. Hickey, G. Viacent, A. Walli«, B. Sejnf, S. Penney. Tr.e remainder of the troop consisted of the following bnysTroopers v B. Hee/ an, G. P. oss'r, B. Modi®, U. McSweswey, E. O'Connor, R. Bway«lacd, W. Wag«t.fl", A. S cc-mbe, and W, Walli". The remainder of the schoolboys have also be n formed into a corps but have not obt lined mounts yet and so will drill as a foot corps. The boya are takiog a most enthusiastic intirast in the corps. Alt are , good rid#rg and io the mouoted drills they h vo hid so far have acquitted themselves mo3t credi'ably. vAt present they are engaged in l&tafog the manual exercises with gpU of Horni ma„ufactu< e, which, if not very deadly, at least serve tho purpose. '
It is anticipated that about 24 cadet* will be'able to accept the Premier's invitation. Uniforms ora the chief difficult/, but the Captain is miking evmy effort to obtain them. The colou a chos°n are blue, with crimson end yel'ow facing?, which are the Prince cf Wales' Boyal lancers, (the 12th Landers) c. lours. The parents of,, the !os have ch« erfully consented to brar the exp- nt>e of the uniforms. An effort is now b.ing mtde by the Captiin to obtain riflpg in time for the trip. The local Rifle Olub had a satisfactory pact ice on Wednesday, which, we uadei stand, wus p.epiratory to ft maich with lUhotu shortly.
