About fifty of the Royal party, including the Duke and Duchess, went for a picnic to-day op the Hawke<bury in the river iteamer General Gordon. The cruis*r Juno fired a salute in honour of tlw bit tbdaj of the Duchess. Salutes were also fired by tbe forts and warships, including the Russian Grcmoboi at Sydnay in honor of tbe occasion.
THE ENTRY INTO BYDNEY. AN ENTHUBIABTIO GATHERING. Received 27, 6.54 p.m. Syd-iky, May 27. The Opbir left the Hawkesbury about 7 30 a.m., and entered Sydney Heads about 10.30, escorted by the ' Juno and the vessels of the Australian Squadron in line of formation. As they proceeded up the harbour the boys of the training thip Sobraon lined the foreshore on the Southern Hoid. Coming abreast of Bradley's Head the Gromoboi, Ru siin worship, fi-ed a salute of twelve guns* The vessels of the Australian sta'ion task up a position in Neutral Bay, the Ophir proceeding to her moorings the flagship's buoy. The stiee's were lined wi h crowds of fpectators. The enthusiasm was even greater than nt Melbource. The landing took pla<*e at two o'clock at Farm O've. As tie Roya party s'epped ashore the forts and war ships fired a salute. The Royal p\ir then proceeded to the Pavilion, erected rear the !an li»g place, where they wera welcomed by Lord Hopitoup, the Lieut.-Governor, and the Mayor, Hon. E. B-rton, Sr. W. Lyne, and other leading ctticials and citizens. Cheers broke out with renewed vigour as the Dak* and Ducibeu took their seats, and with th« iJew South Wales Lancers as a guard of honor, commenced to drive citywards, through dense crowds to St. Mary's antranc", over which was er ct#d a fine greenery arch bearirg in large letters the word " Welcome." *• Turning into George street the Town Hall made a brave show of bunting, and the Government tramways showed fine fligs grouped on tiansomes, with burnished shields in the centre. Many leading city firms alio handsomely decoia'ed their buildings.
