Tokomaru, for Wellington, at G p.m. Spit, May 22. Indramayo, for Wellington, <»t 2.30 p.m. On Monday morning, says th» N.Z. Times, there were five large cargo steamers at the Queen's Wharf, of an aggregate nett burthen of clnee upon 19,000 tons—a big record for the winter months. A few dayß ago the Upolu was detained on the Picton side of the French Pass, owing to the steam steering gear becoming deranged, and the delay caused her to miss the tide at Nelson. The recent heavy seas have bad a good effect on the new works at the Timaru breakwater, in that they have thoroughly lilted up all the loose rock about the new mole, and made saoh a solid foundation as is nevei likelyto again be shifted. Mr. Bradley, who ia in charge of the works, considers that the recent heavy seas beating en the portion of the work already done was the best thiag that could have happened. Oaptain Carlton, the popular skipper of ths Union steamer Monowai, haft, we understand, been appointed pilot of the Ophir daring her trip to New Zealand. Oaptain Carlton joins the Ophir at Sydney, and after taking her round hew Zealand, lraves hor at Hobart. This is certainly a compliment to the Union Company. The nsxt Home steamer with dairy produce -will be the Paparoa, leaving Wellington on May 23rd. To avoid disappointment early application for space is necessary.
