Mr. Oonnett eaid that, personally, be opposed the idea of the Club joining the (Joion. If members were willing to join, as individuals, he siw no objection to their doing so ; he thought the Club, as a body, should continue or an | independent course. He was afraid the discussion of Bone of the subjects mentioned in the Union " platform " would, from their political bearing, be the means of introducing discuwions of a " party " political nature, and this was very undesirable. At present members —whatever their political leanings might be—could meet at the Olub rooms and discuss matters of mutual interest, and polities were never allowed to be intruded.

Mr. H. Okey said he could see no objection to the Club joining as a body. Party politics were not to be allowed, according to the rules. It would be assisting the farmers, by getting them to take a more lively interest in matters which nearly affected them. Captain Gibson thought farmers should join both the Union and the Olub.

Mr. H. Okey moved, That a branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union be formed in Taranaki; and that the rooms of the Farmers' Olub be open to the Union ; members of the Club to be 1 allowed to join on payment of Is ent anu > fee, and le subscription—which wan carried.

The following officers were elected: Pi evident, Mr. H. Okey ; Committee (provisional), Messrs Sergei and Adlam.

The officers then discussed details! in connection with the formation of committees at the various settlements throughout the district, and decided to call a general meeting for Saturday, 11th May.
