FUNERAL OF THE LATE W. WAIMATE SMITH.
With every sign of sorrow and respect, the remains of the lata W, Waiuute Smith were laid to rest on Tue'diy. At two o'clock the Fira Brigade, under O&ptain Bell ringer, musterel in full frrce, and the coffin, which was covered with wreaths, amongst which lay the helmet : and acoutremen's of the decoded, was rever-intl/ placed on a Inkier carriage, whhh was drawn by 'mombeis' of the brigade, who also car-iied wieitks. Headed by the Town Band, playirg the " D->ad March," «nd foilowid by th 9 office's of the hrigad-, represent itives of theiS'ritford brigade, the chief mourners, His Wor-rhip the Mayor and several of th« Councillors, the Town Clerk, tin Borjugh Earp'oyarfy a l>rge contingent of Oddfe'kiws and many others, the long cortege slowly wended its way to To Efrnui cemetery. F:om all roads 'e riling thitlre" there eauoo a large concourse of both scxts of nil ages, and when the service at the graveside wis bdng read the gathering appeared to ba of very large dimensions. Many were visibly affectt-d during the touching address delivered by the Kev. F. G. Evans, who oflichtcd. At the conclusion of the Church .servi:n the customary funeral rites of the Odd-' fellows were observed.
