SUPPOSED MASSACRE AT NEW GUINEA.

Brisbane, April 22. The Home Secretary has received a message from the Hon. John Douglass, Special Commissioner at New Guinea, covering a message from the Government resident. He gives the scene of the supposed massacre as Caoribata Island, at tho mouth of the Aird River. The party landed intending to return to I the mission schooner in half an hour and bave not been seen sicca. Later in the day the schooner was surrounded by a fleet of camoes, and the natives removed all food, clothes and tools, 'but did not touch the crew. The schooner cruised about till the follow-! ing day and them left for Port Moresby. Mr. Douglas adds thero is a possi-' bility still that the party are prisoners in the bands of the natives, but it is not in accordance w..th their habits. It is still difficult to account for the fact that when they looted tbe schooner the j crew were not touched. The list of the supposed murdered persons is : Chalmers, Toaakins, a half-caste, James j Walker, Chief of K;w;'s tribe, and uitiocalouied mission studens.
