The Conference have farther resolved to ask tha Government to provide 10s per day to all jurymen; th it Grand juries be abolished, and th*t do solicitor be allowed to inspect the jury panel; that all vacancies in the Government services be advertise', for, aamee, after examination as to fitness, to be submitted ti ballot; that Sute farms be established ; that individual acquisition of wealth be curtailed e'tber by increased probate duty or by a direct we*lth tax; the Government to provide free and secular education from primary schools to the Univoisity; that education be e mpu'so y up to 14 year*, papils passing the s ; xth standard before that age to attend a high schoel; that there be an uniform set of standards and school books, the books to be provided by the State, that labour organisations ba granted direst representation 'on Harbour Boards; that the oil and mineral wealth of the colony be nationalised ; that Clauses 171 to 181 of the Mining Act be inserted in tbe Coal Mines Act; that the Government pay for tbe men's inspection; that coal mine owners be compelled to conduct sufficient pure air by brattice or other means within 15 feet of every working face; that the Government be urged tc nationalise the carrying trade by sea and land, to introduce a Betterment Bill, to pass an Elective Executive Bill, to provide for the periodical revaluation of Crown lands on lease; to establish a State Bank with sole right to issue. It was resolved to prot sfc against the sale of Crown lands by Government.

Wblukgtojt, April 11. ] The Dunedin Trades and Labour Conference has carried resolutions ask- j ing that clause 40 of the Mines Act b? amended so as to compel mine owners j to provide travelling rods for workmen ( as near as consistent to the main entrance of a mine, and that no person be | allowed to have charge of a coal face - unless he has had not less than two ■ years' previous experience in a coal , mine. These and other recsmmenda- | tions are to be forwarded to the Coal Commission. It was also rrselved : That the Mining Act be amended in - the direction of taking away from workmen the pewer to appoint two of their number to inspect any mine, and that in lieu thereof power of appointment bo vostod in tiio 'ocal Industrial TTuion of Workers ; that i< e principlo contained in clause 09 of the Co'l Mint's Act le ina-rtad in the \ Mining Ac: for the puTow of providing for miners and their 1 families i:i cai-e of sickness or accident, and that a royal'.y ba charged on every ounce of goll produced in order to provide luuds for that purpose ; that with a view to making it unnecessary to waste tbe time of boys in S'ate schools with military drill, the Government be urged to make provision for a thorough system of colonial defence by means of rifie clubs end rifle ranges in every district in tbe colony, clu l s to be opeo to all men at ove the age of seventeen ; that tbe Government be urged to repeal the clause in the Defence Act which allows of the importation frea of duty of all military clo'hing, saddlery, and equipment for bona fide volunteer corps.
