THE ROYAL VISIT.
[PER PKESS ASSOCIATION.) Received 2, 9.16 a.m. LoHDOir, April 1. The Ophir arrived at Suez at 10 •'clock this morning and sailed again at 11.30 a.m. after reporting all well. The Ophir had a recerd passage through the Suez Canal to the Bitter ! Lake, where she was drained owing to an accident te a dredger hindering the passage and rendering it unsafe. The Ophir anchored during the night. The Ophir encountered the Imperial Representative Corps in the troopship Britannic ashore at Lake Quinsah. A party from the Ophir visited the Brittanic. On passing the troopship the Royal party were saluted by a guard of honour.
Dtoeddt, April 1. A programme outlined includes a drive through tbe main streets, which are to be decorated and festooned ; presentation of addresß at Town Hall; visit to and opening the Winter Show; and a reception in the evening. The city is to be illuminated. On the following day the Duke will be asked to lay the foundation stone of the Queen's Statue, attend tbe children's demonstration and floral display and the maiitine display in the evening on the occasion of tbe Ophir's departure. Wellington, April 1. It has been resolved that an address of welcome should he presented to the Royal visitors in, the. jtriangle. facing the General Post Office. Only one arch is to be erected, the- site being across Jervois Quay from Qdeen's Chambers to tb» railway line. The Mayors and Chairmen of local bodies outside the city are aho to be invited to take part in a conference to arrange a joint plan. Aucklanb, April 2. The committee have decided to eall for competitive design 1 ? for arches, the first prize to b) ten guineas, and the second five. Tre Harbour Board have decided to erect one arch and decorate and illaminate tbe wharves at a total cast of £SOO.
