THE CONWAY MYSTERY.
' Keeaived 27, 3.60 p.m. I Sydney, March 27. At the Conway inquest the Governmeat Analyst, recalled, stated that sulphate of strychnine v') 9 soluble in water to the extent of two per cent. A fatal dose cauld be dissolved in a desert spoonful of alcoholic liquor. A deadly dose of alkaloid of strychnine could jjie dissolved by an unskilled person in balf a pint of alcoholic liquor ; by a skilled person in l< ss. ' Brooks, the chemist, recalled, eaid he " erronouely cotifused sulphate and j alkaloid. It was the latter he supplied to Smith. Edith Suddlesfcone, of j Blenheim, who occupied thq cabin with Smith in the Tuiune, eaid they frtquently took stout ; sometimes " Smith paid, souaetitMS she did. It was I not unusually brought by the stewards " i with the cork drawn. She had , some on the day Conway died, at 8 Mrs. Smith's suggestion she did not 3 ' take it with lunch, but afterwards, she was taken ill that evening.
