It was afterwards ascertained be - i yqnd doubt that a bag was left bahind, as 'the weight at the letters was short, and tweuty registered book packets are missing. The handling of mails on their way overland has fallen into a very unsatisfactory state. The constant delays which were a feature some years ago are appearing worse than ever. The Sierra had to carry the pilot on to Hoaolulii, as it was too rough to transfer him to the pilot sob-poner.
