THE CONWAY MYSTERY.

Heccivtd 9, 3.H a.m. fc'iVUSEY, i'tSjircri 9. i Af; the inquest Murphy, stewwl of the Talune, deposed that shortly after eight o'clock on tho night of February 19th ho saw Conway sitting with a lady on the hatchway. The lady had, what appeared to bp, a small bottle of English ale in her hand. After sitting together for some time tht lady got up and went into the saloon. About twenty micufes after the lady had gone he siw Conway in a state of collapse. He failed to identify Mrs Smith »s the lady ho saw \ on the hatchway. (Received 9, 3.17 a.m.) Sydney, March 9. Murphy gave similar evidence to McCombie in regard to Conway's death. Thomas Mcliiide a, pas-songsr on the Talune gave bvidonca that he saw a ladynear Conway shortly before he was taken ill but could not identify her. He had seen Mrs Smith on board the Talune. The inquest then adjourned. (Kcctivefl 10, 5.30 p.m.) Sydkey, March 10. I At the idquest, Mr. Murphy said he saw Conway just fcofore lie was t i'nen ill sitting on the hatchway with a lady, and pointed out Mrs. Smiih as iho lady. He recognised her by the dress and not by the face. W. Butttra, a leaident, was engaged 4 cleaning under a oaacrocarpa hedge in Nayland-s'.reefc he found a pigskin ' pocket book and on opening it the con- f tents turned out to be a left luggage ticket and a penny stamp. The pocket book is said to correspond in every respect with the one Conway lost at Sumnei. Butter's immediately handed it over to tho custody of tho local police, I
