For the whole year the impoi'U amounted to £10,646,096, 8 g ngairst £8,739,633 for t!;e year 1899. Napier is the only port in the colony which showed a :"a impor< s. The principal of tha deficiencies are Wanganui £21,400, Wellington £79,400, Napier£lßo,loo, W* ; roa and Picton £13,000, Nelson £SOOO, Grey mouth £52,000, Hekitika £6OOO, Lyttelton £175,600, and Timam £70,800. Auckland shows an increase of £33,500 for the quarter, Poverty Fay an increisd of £07,500, Oamaru £35,800 and Dunedin £25,000. The United Kingdom alone took £401,000 wor-.h less of New Zealand goods than in the last qmrter of 1899. Uape Colony also figures in the same light by taking £1215 worth of goods, as agiinst £45,869 in the hat quarter of 1899, and quite a number of other customers have bken reduced quantities of export*. The following were the principal articles of expirt:-—Mine product-,' L 374.539 (gold L 338.957); fi»beri s, L.4488; forest Products, L 223.752 (kauri gum L 146,658); unimal produce, LI ,274,810; agricultural produce, L 331,776; manufactures, L 86.070. The following are tho values of certain exports in January last, and for the coiresponding month Inst year: But'er, 1901, £116,902; 1900, £142,981; cheese, £28,727 and £33,749; frozjn besf, £20,594 ard £32,161 ; frozen nvittrn, £72,033 and j £82,3-13; logs an-' pkos, £2659 and I £8865; f;oz3n limb, £22,112 and i £53.209.
