(PER PRESS ASSOOIATIOK). j Nailer, February 9. < At the General Synod, a Select Cwramittee was appointed, on the motion of the Bishop of Chris'chnrch, to ascertain whether Bishop Solwyn made a compact with other churches ae to their respective spheres in the Pacific. It was arranged that Norfolk Island should form a part of the diocese of Melanesia.
A motion was passed praying for an amendment in the Oolmial Clergy Act to enable colonial clergymen visiting England t j officiate without the preI sent vexations restrictions. A long discussion took place on the Maori Mission, The Comori'tee appointed to consider the subject reported recommending that various steps ba taken with a view to arouse the interest of the public in the question ; that ft director of Maori Missions be appointed ; that a minimum sal.iry of native clergymen be .£IQO a year. The Bjshop of We'lington said there were SQOO Maoris ' n 3 diocese, now scattered like sheep.
