SCHOOL INSPECTORS' CONFERENCE.

[PER I'BES-i ASSOCIATION, j Wellington, February I. At the School Inspector*' Conference to-day tho following resolutions were passed;-(I) Asking tho Minister of Education te establish a special examination and issue a f-pecial diploma or certificate to teachers who show thorough theoretical practical knowledge of f fich of the following eul - ! jec'B :— SiDginp, general Hcience, drawing, drill, and domestic economy; (2) stating the cause of true education would be immensely _ benefited by a more careful selection of teachers capable of exercising an elevating influencing over pupils; (3) suggesting the advisability of establishing a pension scheme for teachers aud inspectors; (4) expressing an opinion that for the better protection ©f tho of tho ! country, the examination and inspection of private schools by public school inspectors is desirable; (5) affirming thfl desirability of maintaining training colleges at the four priccipal centres; (6) intimitiog that, in tho opinion of the Conference, should ba placed under the authority 1 of the central Department, WrIXjISQTOS, February 2.

At the School Inspectors' Conference | it was resolved that the Minister be asked to take steps to enable luspectors! of Schools to vo'e at the election of members of Parliament on the sime footing as commercial travellers; that a course study in continuation of that prescribed for Standard VI. be laid down for Standard VII., and that such other subjects as the circumstances of each district render desirable, and the inspector approves be added thereto, and suck course shall be at the option of the teacher in all schools, with a staff of fewer than three teachers; teat teachers 6hould receive suitable remuneration for their work; that in any district remote from centres where no secondary schools exist, a district High School may be established, providing that fifteen Standard VII. pupils attend; that in larger centres of population the Minister be asked to establish Central Schools that shall provide for pupils who have obtained a proficiency certificate of general education, along with such technical instrootion as may be needful; that, in addition to the present concessions, the Education Department be asked to grant free school season tickets to all pupils over fifteen years of age, who are attending any s-'hools under an Education Board, and doing work higher than Standard VI,, or, who are holding Education Board Scholarships, and are attending a secondary school.
