TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.

Thk Education Board met on Wednesday. Present: Mr. MoAUum (chairman), Mi-s Haywood, Messrs. Adiara, Wade, Allsworth, Mackay, Kennedy, Faull and Hisjnoit. Mies Hey wood explained what had taken place, and said that the Sewing Committee hud met the teachers, but the interview was not a; miccess, nor was the behaviour of the teachers satisfactory. Mr. Hignett remarked that the request was a very hardy annual. Mr. Allsworth, after calling; for the aetual attendance numbers to ba read out, said that there were other schools where the attendance was much-more in excess of the accommodation than at Inglewood, where there was seating for 232, and an average attendance of 173 8. The difficulty was that the building was badly arriog^d. The Chairman pointed out that the inconvenience seems 3 to arise from the seats being in the wrong places.

It was decided that the committee be informod tbat tho Board regret being unable at present to enlarge the school owing to want of funds, but that in the meantime the Architect and Inspector be requested to report on the matter.

Misa Mary M. Mo3re, writing from Rotor un, expressed her regret at being unable to resume duty en the 28th, as she was still under medical treatment. She therefore resigned her appointment, as she did net expect to be able to return until March.

On the 'motion of Mr. AUs worth, eeconded by Mr. Higce L t, it was decided tbat under the unfortunate circumstancQs connected with Miss Moore's socident, a further three months' leave of absence be granted to her.

The report of the Teachers' Se'eotion Oomaittoe was adopted. At this stage of the business, Mr. Allsworth informed the Chairman that he had just received information that a cable had coine to hand wilb the sad news pf Her Majesty's death. In tbe meantime, a suitable resolution of regret and sympathy to be drawn up by Messrs. Ma'Allum; Allsworth, and Mackay. On resuming on Thursday, on the i motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Mackay, the follewing resolution wos passed :—" That the members of this Beard dssire to place on record the extreme regret, with which they received intelligence of the demise of Her Most Grr.cious Majesty ska Quuen, and their sympathy with Hie Royal Family in their bpreaveme»t,.to bear grateful testimony to the manifold blessings, it hj«» pleased " The Only Ruler of Princos '' to confer ou the Mother-Land, asd the rest of the B spire, through *he instrumentality of Her late beloved Majesty during her long and beneficent reign ; and to acknowledge with thankful ess, the noble example she set her subjects as! wife and mother, and the singular devotion with whioh she gave herself to the service of her people, notwithstanding the many sorrows, trials, and bereavements she had to endure by the way/'
