The Land Board meets to-day. Corporal Coutts of the First Contingent, who was the only New Zealander awarded a Queen's Scarf, has consented to give a lecture at the Theatre Royal, on Monday the 28th inst., on his experiences at the seat of the war, and his impressions of the country from a settler's point of view. lie has already proved that he can make the subject both interesting and entertaining, and there is little doubt but that he will be able to relate many incidents which have not yet been chronicled. Being well-known in the district, an additional interest will be taken in the lecture, and a crowded house should greet Mr. Coutt's on the occasion. Further particulars will be advertisad. Mr. Lohr, who is touring the Arnold English Comedy Company, arrived by the Mapou-.| rika on Sunday, to orrange for perforances here on Tuesday and Wednesday the 2 th and 30th inst. The company is just completing a month's season at Wellington, where their performances aje being given to crowded houses. Wo understand that 3fr. Frank Grayling's tender for the Tongaporutu bridge, has been accepted. The entries for the solo competitions at the Wanganui Band contest, will close on Saturday the 26th inst. It is hoped that New Plymouth will be well represented especially as we understand the Oity Band will be pleased to atford every facility for 1 instrumentalists outside their own members I taklr.g part io the contest. The funeral of the late Mr. Nathaniel HoGKor, which took plnce yestorday, was largely attended, tee Oddfellows of which the deceased belonged being in large numbers. Tho bearers were Past' Grands of the Lodge to which ho belonged, beinj Past Grands Harris Ford, W. H. Roberts, W. Chivers, S. Hill, H. A. Ainswortli, and WStump. The District Officers were all pro. sent. The Revs. Serpell and Cannell conducted the services at the grave, at the conclusion of which P.P.G,M. Case read the Oddfellow's burial service. His Worship, the Mayor, and a largo number of citizens attended to pay a last tributo of respect to the deceased. The Hon. J. Carroll and Mr. A. L. D. Fraseraro visiting Adelaide, and were entertained at luncheon by the Ministry. : His Lordship the Primate preached at St. ' Mary's yesterday morning and evening, and confirmed some 'lO candidates in tho after- ) noon. ,
