DEATH Ob' SIR J. B. jP^viJOJT. y 'j- ■ [pan phhss ass'L „ .ation.] Received 10, 8.3 a.m> Sydney, January 10. Sir J. R. Dickson, Federal Minister of Defence, died early this morning at the Australian Olub, where he has been staying since his arrival in Sydney, He had suffered from diabetes for a long time, and his exertions in connection with the Commonwealth celebrations aggravated the trouble. Sir J. R. Dickson was in his 69 th year. He was twice married, and leaves a grown-up family by his first wife. For many years ho was a prominent political figure in Queensland, He was a Liberal and a Freetrader, and took a leading part in the Federal movement, being chiefly responsible for inducing Quoinsland to join tbeUnioa, He acted aa the colony's delegate to England on the Commonwealtn Bill.
