SPECIAL MIXTURES, can be made at any time to suit farmers. Note-The "SO." Manure gave the best results in proportion to cost out of 19 experiments with Champion Swede Turnips at the Government Experimental Farm at Momohaki in 1897 (see page 170, Fifth Keport of Agricultural Dapartment) : The experimeuts made at Momohaki with various Manures upon Turnips in the Beaßon 1898-99 show that the best result was obtained from a mixture of one-third steamed bone dutt and two-thirds basio slag (Thomas' Phosphate), whilst the beat result, at a minimum cost, was from a nocture of one-third Lawes' Superphosphate and two-thirds of the W.M E Co's "M ' Manure. The latter mixture contains the same components as the WM &. Co. s No. 3 Mixture, the proportions aeing a littlo different. The former combination points to the fact, now generally reoognised, that the value of baido slag, also known as Thomas' Phosphate, has been greatly under-estimated.' The W.M.E. Uo.'s No. i Mixture contains one-third of Thomas' Phosphate. A perusal of the report of Mr. Gillanders, the manager at Momohaki, embodying the results of the experiments referred to, which will be found in the Seventh Kepors of the Dei partmeni, of Agriculture, wonld amply repay any farmer who finds a diffioulty in selecting the most suitable manures.
