THE LATE REV. EDWARD BEST.
The late Rev. Edward Best will be long remembered and esteemed by many residents in New Plymouth where, shortly before his lamented sudden death, he conducted services which proved both effective and stimulating. A representative of the Advocate recently interviewed the late venerable Minister and thus describes the incident:—" The reminiscences which he was able to relate, given as they were in a happy, humorous, and withal an intensely earnest manner, were listened to with rapt attention. As one listened to Father Best, and was thrilled with the graphic narrative of God's dealings with the people in days gone by, one could not but feel this is the kind of thing our materialistic and expediency loving generations should hear. The needs of the world today are the same as in the years gone by, and we should seek the ever available remedy. Veterans who still remain among us should be encouraged to tell us of days of old, and we should' be more anxious to ask of the days that are gone and the years that have been. All too soon our patriarchs will be gathered to their fathers. While they are with us we should be ready to sit at their feet. The link between one generation and another cannot be too highly prized or carefully cherished,"
