SPECIAL MIXTURES* oan be made at any time to sait farmers. Note—The " M " Manare gave the best results in proportion to cost out of 19 experiments with Champion Swede Turnips at the Government Experimental Firm at Momohaki in 1897 (see page 170. Fifth Report of Axiioultural Department) The experiments made at Momohaki with various Manures upon Turnips in the Season 1898-99' show that the dust roiult was obtained from a mixture of one-third steiime.l bone dust and two-thirds basic slag (Thomas' Phosphate), whilst the beat result, at a minimum cost, was from a nrixture of one-third Lawes' Superphosphate and two-thirds of the IV.ME Go's "M " Manure. The latter mixture oon. tains the same components as the W.M £!, Co.'a No. 3 Mixture, the proportions aeing a little different. The former combination points to the fact, now generally reoognised, that the value of'basic slag, also known as Thomas' Phosphate, has boen greatly under-estimated. The W.M.E. Co.'s No 4 Mixture contains one-third of Thomas' Phosphate. A perusal of the report of Mr. Gillanders, the manager at Momohaki, embodying the results of the experiments referred to, which will be found in the Seventh Kepor. of the Department of Agriculture, wunld amply ropay any farm ar who finds a difficulty in selecting the most su.table manures.
