STORM AND FLOOD.

[PEE PBESJ ABSOOUTIOS. I Wellingtoh, Octobw 81. The gale blew itself out yesterday, after nearly five days of the wont weather since the Easter storm of 1897. On this occasion, however, there was not muoh rain, and locally little ham was done beyond tangling np the wine and blowing the hulk Omega ashore. The weather is now fine, but still breezy. The gale was severely felt in the Wairarapa district. Last night's MmterUm Star says such a gale has not been experionced there for years. In the Lower Valley the wind blew with hurricane force: trees were uprooted, fences razed, windows blown in, iron roofs carried for long distances, and chimneys blown over. The Wairarapa Basing Club's grandstand on the Tauherenikau racecourse is reported to be considerably damaged. Passengers by Monday night's train from Wellington were terror stricken by the noise and rocking of the oarriages coming down the Kimutaka incline and some of them declined to proceed further than Featberston.

A good deal of damage was done to orchards in Masterton. Blenheim, November 1. The gale was severely felt in the district. The rivers were all very high, but the water did not enter the town, although the outlying localities suffered a good deal. At Tuamarina a fiazmiU and shed were blown down and a number of sheep lost.
