THE TARANAKI TRUST. At the Anglican Synod, now sitting in Auck-, land, the question of the Taranaki Trnst was under discussion, Mr. 0. M. Calder 1 moved, and ifc was agreed, "That a soleot committee be appointed to consider the allocation of the Taranaki Trust funds for the year 1901, and report to this Synod as to what such allocation should be. The said committee to consist of Dr. Kenny, the Rev. F. G. Evans, Mr. W. H. Skinner, Mr. F P Corkill, the Rev. F. W Walker, the Rev. Canon Haselden, and the mover." On the fcynod resuming tho following day, the committee reported, and on the motion of Mr. Oalder, who explained that one of the Ne.v riyraouth representative (Mr. F. P. uorkill) had to return home, ifc waaagreed to suspend the standing orders and consider «lie report forthwith. On the motion of Mr. 0, M. Oalder it was unucirr.onfily resolved: 1. "That the sum haing a portion of the Tararu > s *' as an endowment for i>l. Marys Parish, New Plymouth, and that the rrust Board appoint trustees, and have the necessary trust deed prepared." 2. " That the sum of £686 13s 3d, being a further portion of th« Taranaki Trust, be held is an endowment for the maintenance of the I --tergjr within the archdeaconry of Taranaki i oy trustees appointed by tho Trust Board, ind that the necessary deed of trnst for we |)u*-pwß t>9 -
th# trustees of the Tafanaki Trust ba direoted and authorised to allocate the income derived from the sum of £6032 6s 2d for the year beginning April 1,1901, as follows:—(A) Parochial district of Waitara, one-fifth; (b) parochial district of Okato, one-fifth; (c) parochial district of Inglewood, one-fifth; (a) parochial district of Stratford, one-fifth; (b) for outdistrict work within the archdeaconry ot Taranaki, onetenth; (f) for Maori mission work within the archdeaconry of Taranaki, one-tenth." During a short discussion on the question, the Rev. Canon Haielden and Messrs. W. H. Skinner, F. P. Corkill, and W. 0. Eensington spoke strongly in favour of the recommendation of the committee. m MM* ASSOCIATION, Auoklajw, Ootobar 12. The Diocesan Synod resolved that it viewed with satisfaction the proposal of the Government to appoint a Boyal Commission to consider the question of issuing licenses or otherwise in the Eing Oountry, and that the Government be requested to appoint a Commission without delay. A motion that the Synod views with satisfaction the Government's proposal to continue prohibition in the Eing Country till the Commission is appointed was rejected. Subsequently it was resolved to urge on the Government the necessity of prohibiting the use of intoxicating liquors at Maori tangis and huis. The Synod waj prorogued.
